May 2017 Favourites

May Favourites Header Image

May is over and that makes me sad because my birthday month is over, but happy because Winter is finally here! Who else loves the cold weather? I love it, everything is better when you are not hot and sweaty 24/7! Here are some products I was loving in May (and if you’d like to read what I was loving last month, click here).

Firstly I’d like to quickly mention a new favourite that I picked up towards the end of May, which was the Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint mascara. As I mentioned in my Sephora Haul post I didn’t expect to like this mascara at all, but it quickly became a favourite and I haven’t stopped using it for the last two weeks. It lifts my lashes and holds a curl really well, which for me and my dead straight lashes is a miracle. It is nicely volumising and lengthening and is super black. It doesn’t transfer on my hooded eyelids either (another miracle). All in all, I love this mascara! It’s the first mascara I’ve tried from Tarte so I am definitely keen to repurchase the full size and try more mascaras from the brand (if you have any particular recommendations let me know in the comments below!).

The second product I was showing lots of love to in May is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Light. I mentioned on my Instagram a little while ago that during my complimentary Mecca Maxima makeup application the makeup artist used this powder on me as a contour shade (I have fair skin with cool undertones). I thought it worked really well and I knew my sister owned Mood Light as a setting powder but was never very happy with it. I owned Luminous Light which is a lovely natural highlight shade, and so my sister and I swapped powders (I have enough highlighters anyway and I was really keen to continue using Mood Light as a contour shade). It worked out perfectly and we were both very happy (hooray for siblings!) This powder is very finely milled and luminous – it is designed to diffuse light over the face and create a flawless base, which it does. Hourglass products are expensive but well worth it in my opinion. This powder is stunning and I love using it to softly contour my cheekbones.

Next up is a skin care item: the Garnier SkinActive Hydra Bomb Tissue Masks in Pink Chamomile (Soothing), Green Tea (Rebalancing), and Blue Pomegranate (Rejuvenating). These sheet masks are phenomenal. Firstly, they are affordable and accessible (you can buy them at the supermarket here in Australia!). Secondly, the sheet mask fits my face really well and seems to cover more surface area (which means my skin is getting more of the product on it). Thirdly, there is a lot of serum to massage into your face and neck once the mask is off, which I really enjoy. Fourthly (phew!), the results are excellent! All three masks are hydrating with another benefit depending on the colour/ingredient. The Green Tea mask was so amazing when I had a few breakouts on my face – it simultaneously reduced the appearance and severity of them while also hydrating them rather than drying them out and making them look worse (as some treatments can do). Big tick from me! I will continue to repurchase these masks – I am completely obsessed with them.

As always, my last favourite for the month was a nail polish. My nail polish for the month of May was the Rimmel London 60 Seconds Super Shine polish in the shade 345 Black Cherries. I mentioned in my last favourites post that I was feeling the darker shades of nail polish lately, which is why I picked this guy up. I wanted a dark purple shade and this fit the bill perfectly. As the name suggests, it is super shiny and it dries quickly (amazing). When paired with the Rimmel London Gel Top Coat this polish lasts perfectly for a week (which is great compared to most polishes I have). This nail polish is really affordable as well and I highly recommend the range to everyone! All the shades are gorgeous and I think I need to go get more right now…

That does it for this month’s favourite products. What were you loving in May? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks so much for reading!

Much love,

    1. Yeah I agree! I wasn’t expecting much from the Garnier but was really happy with the results! Have you tried the Mizon masks from Mecca? I think it is a Korean brand and it’s really affordable! They are pretty good too ☺️😘
